Ruth Harshbarger Obituary

Ruth M. Harshbarger 92 of Salem passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 19th at 1:30 pm at Salem Friends Church in Salem with Rev. Tom Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday April 18th from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Memorials may be made to the Salem Friends Church or to the Salem Library in her memory.

Ruth was born on May 23, 1917, in New London, Iowa the daughter of Joseph Adrian & Mabel May Beer Bell. She graduated from Salem High School and was united in marriage to Harold K. Harshbarger on November 30, 1939, in Salem Iowa. She taught country school at Maple Grove, had worked at the Salem Grocery Store and the Houghton School. Ruth belonged to the Salem Kitchen Band, American Legion Auxiliary, Salem Saddle Club and a past member of the Salem Library Board. She was an active and faithful member of the Salem Friends Church.

She is survived by her three sons: Bill Harshbarger (Ruth) of Ft. Madison, Larry Harshbarg (Karen) of Burlington and Kent Harshbarger (Karen) of Mediapolis. Five grandchildren: Kim Gallardo, Barb Wilson, Shane Harshbarger, Monte Harshbarger and Kristi Harshbarger. Eight great grandchildren. Nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twins at birth, and a twin brother: Bob and brother Richard and two sisters: Dorothy and Alice.
