Sharon Kay Hazen 54 of Yarmouth passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Jerry VanHooser officiating. Burial will be in the Richwood Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Sharon was born on May 6, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa the daughter of Paul and Virginia Lane Sommerfeld. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1972 and then attended Southeastern Community College in West Burlington and received her nursing degree in 1974. She was a registered nurse working at Burlington Medical Center and later at Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute. She enjoyed antiques and spending time with her family and friends. She attended Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters: Tara Nahorny of Burlington and Ashley Ann Hazen of Mediapolis. Her parents Paul and Virginia Sommerfeld of Mt. Pleasant and one brother: Richard Sommerfeld and his wife Lynne of Seward, Nebraska and two sisters: Charlotte Zihlman and her husband Steve of Mt. Pleasant and Sheryl Doe of Lincoln, Nebraska. Several nieces and nephews.
