Shirley Langel, 85, of Mount Pleasant passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the New London Specialty Care Center.
She was born on May 16, 1940, in LaRay, Missouri, the daughter of Paul and Edith (Henry) Calhoun. She attended school in Fairfield. In 1956, she was united in marriage to Jim Good and from this union three children were born, Eugene, Larry and Joyce. They later divorced. Shirley later married Jerry Langel; he preceded her in death in 2004.
Shirley worked at Heatilator for 31 years, and then at the Henry County Health Center and later at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mount Pleasant, retiring in 2020. Shirley loved her horses and in her younger years she enjoyed training them. Throughout the years she always enjoyed spending time with her close friends going to different places to eat and to the casino. Most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren was the highlight of her life.
Those thankful in sharing in her life include her children, Eugene (Michelle) Good of Calhoun City, Mississippi,
Larry Good of Mount Pleasant and Joyce Wixom of Brighton, 6 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 5 sisters, Donna Smart, Jackie Smart, Beverly Brobston, Luella Hagens and Janet McKenzie.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. The family will be present until 4 p.m. that afternoon. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant.
