Terry Stith Obituary
Terry R Stith, 67, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, died February 5, 2010 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Born December 28, 1942 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa he was the son of Max R and Flora Gail Thoma Stith. He was married to Linda J. Upton on June 21, 1970. He worked many years in construction with Jerry Wells. He co-owned S & L Construction with Bob Lamm and Paul Mayer. His most recent employment with the Christamore House was most rewarding. He transported the students to and from the Christamore House.
He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1962. He was a varsity letter winner in football, golf, track and basketball. He attended Iowa Wesleyan College until he served his country in the U S Army for two years.
He enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball for both his sons with Don Copaldo and Bob Lamm. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with his sons hunting and fishing. Golfing has long been a tradition in the Stith family. He introduced both his sons to golf at an early age participating in many golf tournaments together. Terry, along with his father Max, his sister Sandra and both his sons, Troy and Tyler have won the Mt. Pleasant Country Club championship. For many years he shared a Saturday morning tee time with Dave Burk, Jerry Hankins and Don Copaldo. He and close friend Jim Rose were loyal followers of Mt. Pleasant Panther and Iowa Hawkeye sports. At one time he was the youth leader at the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Linda, two sons, Troy C. Stith of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Tyler R Stith of Iowa City, Iowa. One sister, Sandra Stith Brown of San Jose, California and one aunt Jean Galloway of California. Two brother-in-laws, Jim Upton (Donna), Harold Upton (Carolyn), two sister-in-laws, Sara J Weschler and Anna Turner along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son Timothy and a close friend Jim Rose.
Visitation will be at the Calvary Baptist Church from 2:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 9th where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
The Celebration of Life for Terry will be at 11:00 am on February 10th at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Full military rites will be at the church following the services. Burial will be in the Richwoods Cemetery, rural Mt Pleasant at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Christamore Family Treatment Center in his memory.
