Velma E. Hamm 91, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at
Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 19th at 10:30 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Bryan Katchay officiating. Burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit or to the Salem South Cemetery.
Velma was born on June 24, 1918, in Washington County the daughter of Harry & Clara Tschantz Stutzman. She was united in marriage to Jay L. Hamm on May 22, 1937 in Memphis Missouri; he preceded her in death on September 17, 2007. She enjoyed her family, reading, playing bingo and visiting. She was a homemaker, making and baking bread, cookies and cakes for the family, grandchildren.
Velma is survived by her three sons: Art (Beverly) Hamm of Winfield, Iowa, Don (Cheryl) Hamm of Sioux City, Iowa and Bob (Judy) Hamm of Dixon, Missouri. 12 grandchildren: Glenn Hamm, Ed Hamm, Judy Menke, Karen Ackles, Jay Hamm, Rick Hamm, Rob Hamm, Theron Hamm, Ruth Ludders, Christina Peters, Paige Hamm and Crystal Hamm, 20 great grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren. One brother Dale Stutzman of Lockridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandchildren, one great grandchild and four sisters and three brothers.
