Verda Fenton Obituary

Verda V. Fenton 92, of Mt. Pleasant formerly of the Lockridge community passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 12th at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Mike Scudder officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant; the family will receive friends at the church on Thursday before the service. Burial will be in the Lockridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Faith Lutheran Church.

Verda was born on November 17, 1917, at Four Corners the daughter of Fredrick Lewis & Minnie Mae Kirk Trabert. She attended country grade school at Four Corners, and then attended Lockridge High School until the family moved to Wayland in 1934, graduating from Wayland High School in 1936. Verda was baptized on November 25, 1917, and confirmed on June 26, 1932 at St Johns Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Peterson on February 17, 1938, at St. Johns Lutheran Church at Four Corners; he preceded her in death in 1979. She later married Bill Fenton on April 17, 1982 at Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant; he preceded her in death in 2005.

Verda was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, L.W.M.L. taught Sunday school for over 20 years, was a homemaker, foster mother, and sewed quilts for the Lutheran World Relief, enjoyed music, flowers and camping. She sang with the Kitchen Clatter Band and the Rhythm Rockers.

Verda is survived by her children: Diane Caldwell and her husband Alan of Mt. Pleasant, Gary Peterson and his wife Sue of Blue Grass and a stepson: Jack Fenton and his wife Karen of Apple Valley, Minn. 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one brother Donald and a sister and brother at birth.
