Viola Beattie Obituary
Viola E. Beattie 98 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Private family burial will be at a later date in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. According to her wished she has been cremated.
Viola was born on August 19, 1915, in Primrose, Nebraska, the daughter of Glen & Annabelle Kinnier Smith. She was united I marriage to Ralph E. Beattie on June 29, 1936, he preceded her in death on February 16, 1949. She worked at the Henry County Courthouse in the Assessor's Office. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and traveling and she was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by her son Rand Beattie of New London, two grandchildren Sheri and Jay; one brother, Glen Smith of Cedar Rapids.
Viola is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Judy, and three brothers: Don Smith, Roger Smith and Richard Smith in infancy and her sister Elsie Kinney.
