Virginia Buxton Obituary

Virginia B. Moffett Buxton 94 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2009, at Park Place Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Joshua Gordon officiating. Burial will be in the Salem East Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established in her memory.

She was born on August 19, 1915, in Mt. Pleasant the daughter of Earl & Bessie Jay Ford. She was united in marriage to Gayle E. Moffett on July 8, 1935 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They farmed near Salem until his death on May 2, 1966. She then married Glen Buxton in Mt. Pleasant on August 1, 1975; he preceded her in death on September 12, 1995. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and had been employed at Hoaglins Variety Store, Dicks Super Valu, Old and New Things and Iris City Antiques.

She is survived by two daughters: Joan Newbold and her husband Roger of Burlington, Beverly Sloan and her husband Jerry of Eldon. Three sons: Michael Moffett and his wife Dar of Salem, Merritt Moffett and his wife Dee of New London, and Mark Moffett and his wife Linda of Mt. Pleasant. 10 grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren: Pamala Gerhardt and her husband Steve, Scot Newbold, Lisa Sloan-Nordyke and her husband Danny, Kevin Sloan and his wife Tiffany, Traci Johnson, Nikki Czeschin and her husband Tyrus, Erik Moffett and his wife Amy, Shawn Moffett and his wife Joanie, Cori Jo Moffett, Ira Moffett, Justin, Eli, Lee and Kali Strait, Jeff and Curt Broeg. 16 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandsons.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one sister Verna Moffett and two brothers: Warren and James Ford.
