Wendell Kinney Obituary

Wendell A. Kinney, 84, of Mount Pleasant died on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 that evening. Memorials may be directed to the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington or to the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant in his memory.

Wendell was born on May 11, 1931, in Salem the son of Alvin Omer & Myrtle Jane (Young) Kinney Sr. He attended Salem Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1949. Wendell was united in marriage to Roberta Ruth Rider on January 30, 1955. He was a journeyman for several different companies and was a member of the Pipefitters Union for more then 60 years. He had served in the Iowa National Guard for 12 years, was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge #8 of Mt. Pleasant. Wendell was a major fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife Roberta of Mt. Pleasant, his son Robert (Jane) Kinney of Mt. Pleasant, one granddaughter Paige Kinney, an honorary granddaughter Allison Sullivan, his brothers; Wayne (Judy) Kinney of Cedar Rapids, Larry Kinney of Minnesota, his sister Lois Six of Indianola, his sister-in-law Florence Kinney of Mt. Pleasant, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, along with his furry friends Gemma & R.J..

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Irma Mabeus, his brothers Darrell Kinney and Alvin Kinney Jr., his brother-in-law's Dallas Six and Howard Mabeus, his sister-in-law's Karen Kinney and Juanita Kinney and his father and mother- in-law Robert (Ethel) Rider.
