Wilma Swanson Obituary
Wilma L. Swanson 93, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Lockridge passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lockridge Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Swigart officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockridge Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Lockridge Baptist Church or Gideon's or to the Lockridge Fire and Rescue in her memory.
Wilma was born on February 5, 1921, in Hillsboro, Iowa the daughter of Frank & Clara Lee Spray. She graduated from Fairfield High School, and was united in marriage to Raymond C. Swanson on March 24, 1942, in Memphis, Missouri; he preceded her in death on June 2, 2011. Wilma had worked as a cook at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield and later at the Lockridge School retiring in 1983. She was a 60 year member of the Lockridge Baptist Church serving in many offices and was a member of the Gideon's also serving in many offices.
She is survived by her children: Larry Swanson of New London, Gloria (Larry) Messer and Robert (Penny) Swanson all of Mt. Pleasant, Richard (Kim) Swanson of Lockridge; 10 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grand-daughter: Lara Harding, two sisters: Erma Spray and Lucille Fillinger; step grandchild: Ray Messer and a son-in-law Wendell Olson.
